Instruments
First Presbyterian Church is blessed with a sanctuary which houses two magnificent instruments. The Casavant Frères Organ, Opus 3738 was installed in 1995 and consists of 3 manuals, 42 stops, and 59 ranks of pipes. The organ regularly presents the best of five centuries of organ music in worship and in concert.
The sanctuary also houses a Fazioli grand piano, which has remarkable tone and nuance. This piano is heard leading congregation singing, playing instrumental selections during worship and in concert.
Symphony of Faith
The Music Ministry at First Presbyterian Church strives to joyfully worship God through the powerful gift of music. The participants in the various choirs and ensembles are dedicated volunteers that work diligently to present music with excellence as an offering of worship to God, and to help lead the congregation into a deeper worship experience.
FPC Sanctuary Choir
The FPC Sanctuary Choir presents each week a varied repertoire of sacred music ranging from Renaissance motets to English choral anthems, to the most recent sacred choral compositions. In addition, the choir presents at least one major choral work a year with orchestra and soloists.
Recent presentations have included Puccini’s Messa di Gloria, Schumann’s Mass in C minor, and Elgar’s Light of Life.
Praise Team
The Praise Team leads the congregational singing for the early service with a variety of more contemporary musical styles with innovative arrangements and harmonies. The Praise team presents the message of the Gospel through music with joy, energy and integrity.
Children's Music
FPC elementary-aged children have music with Ashley Ravitsky, our Director of Music for Children, during Sunday school hour. Ashley has great gifts to offer and a passion for teaching music to children. Our goals for children are that they will learn to sing comfortably, read music, learn how to be part of a larger group and to more fully participate in worship. If you would like any further information, please do not hesitate to email Ashley Ravitsky.
Handbells
The handbell ensemble enriches the worship experience of the congregation by playing monthly in worship services. They also regularly share their music outside of the church walls by performing concerts in the community. The ensemble plays challenging repertoire on the church’s five octaves of Malmark handbells.
