Nature Playscape
Outdoor nature play contributes significantly to a child’s holistic development, supporting their physical, emotional, social and cognitive growth. Spending time immersed in nature helps children develop resilience, self-confidence, problem-solving skills and the ability to assess and approach risk safely. Nature play fosters natural curiosity and cultivates a sense of wonder about the natural world around us.
At First Pres Preschool we firmly believe that Nature Play is essential to a young child’s growth and development. We foster this belief through our Nature Playscape and multiple outdoor play spaces. We encourage interaction with natural elements that allow varied opportunities for exploration, discovery and skill-building. Our campus has many play features such as a large 6’ x 12’ sandbox, tree stumps for sitting, climbing and stepping, a mud kitchen, a large magnetic board and multiple outdoor activity sets that encourage creativity, critical thinking and discovery.
Play-based, Research Supported Curriculum
Our school embraces play-based learning as the best tool for helping to prepare children for essential 21st century learning skills. These include collaboration, communication, critical thinking, creativity and confidence along with social/emotional development, language and math development. Teachers incorporate both child-directed and teacher-guided play in their curriculum.
Child-directed play focuses on social/emotional development, creativity and sensory play and teacher-guided play includes inquiry play, collaboratively designed play, playful learning, and learning through games. All are important aspects of a well-rounded and developmentally appropriate program.

Social Activities
Many social Social/community events take place throughout the year such as our Annual Ice Cream Social, Fall Festival, Book Fair, Community Service Project and Spring Fling. These events and others help create a strong sense of community and connection outside the preschool day.

Summer Camp
We typically offer a fun-filled Summer Camp at the end of each school year, which ends in late May. Summer Camp is for students 3-5 years of age.

Field Trips
Many classes take field trips throughout the course of the school year to such places as apple orchards, libraries, farms and Wildrock Nature Playscape. Parent participation in these special trips is encouraged.
